Business plan
Joyce an experienced poultry keeper says that always she rear 100 to 150 birds. She adds that she rears them for a longer period and sells at quite a higher price. She feeds them on maize brand mixed with other ingredients like silver fish and cotton and soya. She keeps them for 2½ months and sells each bird at 10,000/= to 12,000/=. She has borrowed to enable her buy enough feeds for her birds unlike before when they would take long to grow and would not be of a reasonable size.
Personal situation
Joyce says that she grew up with both her parents but studied up to primary two because her parents were poor. At the age of 18, she got pregnant which forced her to start selling local brew and digging in people’s farm lands for money to cater for her child. Through her savings, she started to sell bananas and also that enabled her to rear chicken and also do farming to date.
